Tips for Updating Your Entryway

Where guests enter your home, you want to give them a warm welcome and set the tone for what they can expect as they travel through your house. When you’re ready for a little refresh, here are some tips for updating your entryway starting with the front door:

  • Your front door is usually the very first thing someone will see when they come to your home. There are so many options to spruce up your front door. Welcome guests with a wreath designed for the season or an upcoming holiday or make a sign that is unique to your home and your style.

The Chalk Couture Creative Kickstart Door Decor Bundle is the perfect way to dress up your front door! The bundle includes the oval surface and two stencils. You can get this bundle for free in January 2023 with a purchase of $100 USD / $123 CAD, but if you are reading this blog post after that date, let this project inspire you or better yet, let me create one of these signs for you!

  • If you don’t already have one, a table is a practical item to add near the front door. It can be a place to catch keys or mail. Look for tables whose size and scale are appropriate for your entry. Tables with built-in storage are good options as they can help streamline a small space. Entryway tables are also a great place to add some personality with decor items that add color, humor or welcoming vibes.
  • Storage near the front door is great for corralling clutter and keeping things tidy. You can use baskets, bins, trays and hooks. Baskets add warmth and texture and can easily be used with your entry table either by placing them on a low shelf or on the floor under the table. This way they take up less space but can catch gloves and scarves, mail, bags and even shoes.
  • Adding a place to sit to put on or take off shoes is also a great addition for an entryway. You can use a bench, a chair, a stool or a simple pouf ottoman. If your seat is upholstered, fabric is a great way to add color and texture. Reupholstering an existing furniture piece is also a great refresh for this space. If your seat is not upholstered, add some pillows or blankets to get the same warmth and texture from fabric.

  • Lights are always a great way to update any space. In the entryway, lights are welcoming and can be incorporated through lighting fixtures, lamps, wall sconces, or candles. Table lamps can be placed on your entry table or you can install a great light fixture on the ceiling. Lighting is also a way to bring in personality or draw attention to other elements in your entry. You can tie your entry space into the rest of your home by using the same style, finish or colors of lighting throughout your home.

Some other ideas include using pieces you already have around your house or shopping sales! The new year is a great time to find sales on organizational items, but you can find so many shopping options at different price points. Thrift stores are great resources especially if you like to do some crafting like painting or reupholstering. Take your time to find just the right pieces for your home. Collecting things over time and slowly updating your space is a great approach to take!

Hopefully, these tips for updating your entryway were helpful and inspire you to look at your space in a new way! Whether you have a small entry space or a grand foyer, you can welcome your guests in style and make a wonderful first impression!

I can’t wait to see what you create in your space!
