Let’s take a look at some recycled cork craft ideas for Valentine’s Day decor! If you’re a wine drinker, you’re bound to have a cork stash lying around your craft room! There are so many ways to use corks in crafting, but since Valentine’s Day is approaching, let’s look at a couple of ways to add some love to your home decor.
Cork Craft Ideas
What says Valentine’s Day better than hearts and hugs and kisses? Not much! These are classic icons that will add Valentine’s Day vibes to your decor. Not everyone decorates for every holiday, but it is fun to add a little nod to the moment with some decor items.
Let’s take a look at two projects created with some corks donated by my sister and my neighbor! If you’re not huge wine drinker but like to do or want to try cork crafts, find a friend or family member that will save their corks and donate them for your creative uses!
Project 1: Heart Door Hanger

List of supplies used to create this door hanger:
- wine corks (the number you need will depend on the size and shape you desire),
- tacky craft glue,
- hot glue gun and glue sticks,
- cardboard to use as a backing for your project,
- ribbon of your choice for hanging,
- optional: any embellishments you’d like to use. The felt flowers used for this project are Chalk Couture Floral and Greenery. You get 3 packs of embellishments with 10 pieces in each pack (4 greenery branches, 2 large felt flowers and 4 small felt flowers). The colors are perfect for spring and coordinate really well with the colors of the corks.

Steps to create the heart door hanger:
- Sort your corks – by size, by color, or any other grouping you like. Tip: sort your corks once and then store them separately! I sorted these corks multiple times before this dawned on me, so save yourself some time and just sort once!
- Lay out corks in your chosen pattern on a piece of cardboard.
- Trace your shape onto the cardboard and cut it out. Tip: If your project is large or skinny, don’t skip this step! I glued all my corks together without a cardboard shape to guide me. Chunks of cork sections broke off every time I moved the heart, and it shifted in shape and came out much larger than originally planned. I decided to add the cardboard backer after the fact, but this would have come together so much easier had this step not been skipped!
- Glue your corks to the cardboard and to each other. A combination of tacky craft glue and hot glue works really well. The tacky glue does a better job of holding the corks together, but the hot glue gives some immediate hold so that you can keep working.
- Let dry for several hours or overnight if possible.
- Add embellishments as desired. These felt flowers and greenery were glued to the corks using a combination of tacky glue and hot glue.
- Add ribbon for hanging and enjoy!

Project 2: Xs and Os

List of supplies used to create these Xs and Os:
- wine corks (the number will depend on the size of your Xs and Os),
- tacky craft glue,
- hot glue gun and glue sticks,
- cardboard to use as a backing for your project,
- optional: any embellishments you’d like to use. If you have tacks in the shape of a heart or an arrow, those would look really cute and are easy to add since you can just press them into the cork.

Steps to create the Xs and Os:
- Sort your corks – by size, by color, or any other grouping you like.
- Lay out corks in your chosen pattern on a piece of cardboard.
- Trace your shape onto the cardboard and cut it out. (The same tip that was mentioned for the heart door hanger holds true here – don’t skip this step! I tried to glue all the corks together without a cardboard backing since this was a smaller project, and support for the shapes was needed and added after the fact.)
- Glue your corks to the cardboard and to each other. A combination of tacky craft glue and hot glue works really well.
- Let dry for several hours or overnight if possible.
- Add embellishments as desired.
- Enjoy!
