DIY Earring Ideas
An all-inclusive kit to make your own wearable art earrings makes creating so easy, and while it’s perfect for the beginner crafter, you can also choose to unleash your creativity by using any Chalk Couture stencils and chalk paste colors you desire on pre-made wooden earring shapes! Below are some examples of earrings that were made using earring blanks purchased online and a variety of Chalk Couture supplies!
Supplies needed:
- earring blanks; the earring kit used for the examples below was purchased online. It came with 60 pieces of wooden earrings in 3 styles including teardrops, circles with cutout, and a tapered pendant, 60 earring hooks and 60 jump rings.
- paint in your choice of colors and a paint brush; craft paint in white, black and olive green were used here.
- stencils of your choice; a variety of stencils were used for the different earrings but the primary stencil was the Chalk Couture Fall Favorite Patterns stencil (shown below).
- chalk paste in your choice of colors; Vanilla, Orion (July Color of the Month), and Pesto were used in these designs. The Chalk Couture Paste & Ink Guide will fill you in on all your need to know about Chalkology Paste.
- a squeegee to apply your chalk paste.
- sealer of your choice; Dixie Bell Gator Hide was used for these projects, but any sealer of your choice would work.
- tweezers (optional) for attaching jump rings and earring hooks.
Wearable Art Earring Project Steps:
- Step 1: choose your earring shape(s) and paint them in your choice of colors.
- Step 2: apply a stencil of your choice and chalk the design in your choice of chalk paste.
- Step 3: let dry and repeat step 2 on the other side.
- Step 4: after both sides are dry, apply your chosen sealer to each side. For these projects, 2 coats of Dixie Bell Gator Hide were used on each side, letting the Gator Hide dry for at least 2 hours between coats.
- Step 5: attach jump rings and earring hooks using tweezers or whatever jewelry tools you have.
